Sept 28 to Oct 2

Looking ahead for all classes – Our artifact project is coming up soon. You need to locate a cultural/historic artifact (an object made by someone in the past that reveals information about the society/time period it is from) that you will be able to bring to school and report on – both in writing and in a short presentation. Cultural/Historic artifacts should have an interesting or unique story behind them. The artifact should not be a family treasure that if lost or damaged would cause trouble.

You will be writing about the artifact and giving a brief presentation in class.
Start looking for an artifact now. We will talk more about this next week.

Monday – page 11 questions due; wrap up unit 1; read/discuss pages 3-11 in text
Tuesday – design a concept map book for regions. This is a graded assignment due at the END of class Wednesday. HW: work on rough draft.
Directions:
Region book. Use scrap paper to design your book FIRST – you only get one “book” from me.
You need a:
·         Cover with title and your name
·         One page (full spread) for each type of region discussed on pages 8-11 (FOUR total)
·         Each spread should describe/define the region type IN YOUR OWN WORDS (use pages 8-11)
·         Each spread should use WORDS and ILLUSTRATIONS to further describe each region FOR THE AREA WE LIVE IN. Be sure to provide MULTIPLE examples for each.
o   FOR EXAMPLE – we live in the Appalachian Mountains. This is an example of a physical region; you could illustrate this by drawing gentle mountains or a map showing the location of the Appalachian Mountain chain.
o   FOR EXAMPLE – we live in Schuylkill (or Columbia) County. This is an example of a political region; you could illustrate this by drawing a map of PA and showing where the county is.
·         You should have ONE extra spread – use this for the region you have the most information about.
·         Do NOT write anything on the back “cover” as eventually you will be gluing this in your ISN.

Things I will be looking for when grading:
·         Neatness, Attractive, Good use of Color
·         Space used wisely (not too much empty space, not too crowded)
·         Pride of ownership
·         Correct spelling and grammar
·         Correct definitions
·         Illustrations that tie into definitions and explanations
·         Followed all directions

Thursday - REGION BOOK DUE. Go over vocab; read handout. HW: copy vocab into ISN (you may use a 5-tab book template or just copy into notebook)
